The Biggest Drama

The Biggest Drama
                                          -Edida Meher Manish

Life is the biggest drama in the world
From a cute little baby
To an old man
The drama continues

First of all the drama starts by a baby
Crying loudly as much as he can
In the secure hands of his mother
“I want this , I want that”… are the only words he says

Next is a boy
With a big and heavy bag, hanging on his shoulders
He loves everything in his days of fun and laughter
Except the Monday morning blues

Then comes a matured young man
With an aim in his life
He has a laptop in his hands
And he is the master of his days

Next is a middle-aged man
With a busy job in his hands
He does not have time for laughter and fun
As he has lot of tension in his mind

Then comes a retired man
With no job to do in his hand
Daily passing time by watching daily soaps in Television or
Go out of station on vacation

Next comes a weak and frail old man
Who cannot even stand
Wearing a spectacle on his sharp nose
And in his hand, he has a religious book

At last, after all this drama
His heart and everything in his body stops working
He sleeps in the darkness of a coffin
Thus ending “The biggest drama in the world”

5 Days Of Enjoyment (Part 3)

5 Days Of Enjoyment

Continued…

4thDay…
Date: 15th Jan’ 2011

This time Sarita woke up very early in the morning as she wanted to play games which had to happen today.

Ram was the last one to wake up. He would have slept one or two hours more if his mother wouldn’t have woken him up. His mother said, “Don’t you want play games which will be organised today.”

“Oh, I have completely forgotten about it.”, said Ram.

“You should be taken into a hospital as you are a dementia patient.”, said Ram’s mother.

“Don’t say that mom. Please help me in getting ready.”, said Ram.

Ram quickly went to the bathroom and had his breakfast and went to the rest of the group. He saw only the girls. Sarala was doing Blah, Blah, Blah to Sarita and Manika. He asked, “Where are Narayan, Abhiram and Venkat? I can’t see them anywhere. Haven’t they came till now.”

Sarala said, “They are playing cricket at the ground at the back side of this house.”

“Thank you for your kind information.”, he mimicked the sound of the customer care lady.

The girls laughed.

Ram went to the back side of the house where he found the boys playing cricket. He said, “I also want to play.”

“Let Venkat do the batting. I will take his wicket in a few balls only.”, said Abhiram.

As Abhiram told Venkat was bowled out on the first ball itself.

They played an individual match. Venkat had to bat first, then Narayan, then Ram and finally Abhiram had to bat.

Venkat this time made 1 run. He was bowled out by Abhiram.

Narayan made 14 runs. Narayan was bowled out in a funny way. Venkat bowled a very slow ball. Narayan wanted to hit huge six. He came running out of the crease and swung his bat hard. As he was a very weak fellow he lost the grip of the bat. The bat went flying to the boundary and the ball had slowly hit the stumps.
Ram was at his best. He scored 49 runs. He was hitting sixes on sixes. When he tried to hit the ball bowled by Abhiram a six he could manage the ball to go to the boundary. Narayan catched the ball very easily.

‘I will take my revenge’ This mantra is followed by Ram very much. When Abhiram was on 10 he threw a fast ball which got forced him to defense. The ball hit the edge of the bat and it went directly to the hands of Ram.

The sun was glowing very hard so they decided not to play another match. They went to Sarala’s house where the girls were playing. The girls were playing UNO cards.

Then only Meera aunty came. She said to the children, “After everybody has lunch all will come to Krishnaya tatagaru’s house. We will start the games for you and also for the elders.”

Sarala said, “Everybody go to their houses and have lunch. We will have to go there as fast as we can.”
They all went to their houses to have lunch.

After half an hour they  had assembled near Krishnaya tatagaru’s house. The chairs ordered by Subash uncle had just came in a tractor. The children started assembling them for the audience.

After all was set, people started coming to Krishnaya’s house.

Even the people from Kandikupa started coming. Julu, Santosh, Kannu and Janika akka came.

Then the host of this event Meera Aunty came. She gave a short speech.

The speech had only one line but the line was very meaningful. It was ‘It is not important to win but what is important is to take part in it’.

First Event – Running Race

Age – Under 12
Gender - Both

She announced,  “The first event is running race for under 12 children and the participants are Venkat, Manika, Surab from Kandikupa and Sonakshi from Kandikupa. Only three of them will win prizes.”
The four of them lined near the starting line waiting for whistle by Suresh uncle. They had to go straight and touch the wall to win the race.

Suresh uncle gave a loud whistle. The children from Dontikurru shouted ‘Venkat and Manika come 1st and 2nd’ whereas children from Kandikupa shouted ‘Surab and Sonakshi, you can win the race.

Venkat and Surab would have ended up in a tie if Venkat had not touched the wall before Surab did.

Result –
1.        Venkat
2.        Surab
3.       Manika

Second Event – Running Race

Age – Under 16
Gender - Female

Meera aunty announced, “Now the race is for the under 16 girls and the participants are Sarla, Sarita,  Janika from Kandikupa and Jeevani from Kandikupa. Only 1st and 2nd will be awarded.”

When the race started everybody shouted “Go Dontikurru rock stars Go.”

Kandikupa gang shouted “Don’t say that. Kandikupa Lions are kings.”

Results –
1.        Sarala
2.       Jeevani

Third Event – Running Race

Age – Under 16
Gender - Male

“Boys line up for under 16 running race. Participants are Ramkrishna, Abhiram, Narayan, Julu, Santhosh, Kannu. Whoever comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd will win prizes.”

The boys sat in a running position. This time Subash uncle did not whistle. He said Ready… Set… and Go…
The boys started running. Narayan was very poor runner.

Results –
1.         Ram
2.       Julu
3.       Abhiram

2        Like this many events took place. Many games were played for example – Frog Jumping, Potato Race (for all the people of all ages), Pulses Identifing (for old ladies only), etc.

It went on till it was evening. They stopped playing outdoor games and started playing indoor games like Antyakshari, Atlas and Dumb Charades (not for winning prizes).

It was 8’20 pm. One thing to say about Dontikurru is that, almost all the people are addicted to a weekday serial known as Mogalirekulu. Someone said that it is 8’30pm so all the people started departing quickly. All the children were very upset because of this. They also went to their houses to have their dinner.

At 9’30pm all children called the people to come to Krishnaya tatagaru’s house because they were having tambola. They were happy that they were able to bring much more people than they had expected.

A ticket’s cost was set to Rs.10. Many of them bought 2-2 tickets. Maliya ammamma had bought 5 tickets.
As they started playing many of them did not get the numbers which they wanted. They started shouting that they wanted this number-that number.

At last Narayan had won first housie, then Maliya ammamma won second housie and at last Subash uncle won the third housie.

That completed the activities for the day.. They all went to their houses and said to themselves, “Yes I have won a prize which I am expecting to get tomorrow.”

They slept by dreaming about what kind of prizes there would be given tomorrow.

The world happiness has been found in Dontikurru itself.
------------------------------------------------------

5th Day…
Date: 15th Jan’2011

Everyone woke up before 7’00am waiting to collect the prizes which they will get.

They ran to Subash uncles house.

Subash uncle said, “You all woke up so early in the morning?

“Yeah…” said Narayan.

“Any idea about the prizes?”, said Venkat.

“Not till now.”, said Subash uncle.

Sarala asked, “When will you buy the gifts.”

“I and Teja uncle must plan it. I think we will go at 9’30am.”, said Subash uncle.

Sarala said, “I hope it is a IPod or a PSP or a Mini Laptop.”

“Sarala are you stupid?”, asked Manika.

“Surely not.”, said Sarala.

“Then stop having those stupid thoughts.”, said Manika.

“Oh Sorry.”, said Sarala to Suresh uncle.

“OK. I am going to tell Teja uncle about the gifts OK.”, said Subash uncle and went to Teja uncle’s house.
“What shall we do now?”, asked Ram.

“Why not play UNO cards?”, asked Sarita.

“OK. Bring the cards to Krishnaya tatagaru’s house. We all will be there.”, said Narayan.
Sarita ran in the direction of her house and all the others went to Krishnaya’s house.

After nearly 5 minutes Sarita came running to Krishnaya’s house with the UNO cards.

They played the UNO cards for 2 hours. It was like playing for only half an hour.

Prakash annaya was coming towards them.

Narayan asked, “Hello annaya. Where were you yesterday? I did not see you anywhere.”

“I was in my friend’s house.”, said Prakash annaya.

“You missed lot of things.”, said Ram.

“Did I?”, said Prakash annaya.

“Why are you here?”, asked Sarita.

“Nothing. Well Subash uncle told me to tell you that he had bought the prizes from Katerikona.”, said Prakash annaya.

“Really?”, asked Manika.

“Yes really.”, said Praksh annaya.

“Subash uncle also said that the prize distribution will be held at 2’30pm.”, said Prakash annaya.

“By the way, what is the time now.”, asked Narayan.

“Its 11’30.”, said Prakash annaya.

“What 11’30?”, said Sarala in a shocked manner.

“Yes.”, said Prakash annaya.

The children went back to their houses to wash themselves and to dress up nicely.  They had their lunch and then gathered near Krishnaya tatagaru’s house at 2’30pm for the prize distribution.

After 10-15 minutes many people started coming. People from Kandikupa also came after half an hour. At last Meera aunty with Subash uncle and Teja uncle came to Krishnaya tatagaru’s house.

Babji tatagaru, Baba tatagaru and Krishnaya tatagaru were made the prize distributors.

Meera aunty said, “The first category is running race of chldren with age under 12. Baba garu please award Venkat because he came first in running race.”

And like that they awarded everyone who won the other competitions.

The prizes were pencil boxes, magnets, solar flower pots, calculators, key chains, etc.

The prize distribution went on till 6’00 in the evening. After the prize distribution all the children stood up and shouted with full force ‘DONTIKURRU ROCKS, DONTIKURRU ROCK STARS ROCKED IT’.

The children talked for hours and hours till it was 11’00pm. It was the end of their 5 days of enjoyment. As they went to their houses sadly as it was their last day of enjoyment.

They had their dinner and slept with emotions. They all thought “Fun is over. Everybody will return from where they had come to Dontikurru”.

Sad To Part With Each Other…

All woke up early in the morning to say good bye to their friends.

Abhiram was the first one to part.

He said, “Don’t worry. I’ll come in summer holidays then we will have our famous Summer Days.”

After Abhiram it was Narayan’s turn.

Ram said, “When will you come?”

“Surely in Summer we must meet.”, said Narayan.

That way everyone went to their respective cities or villages. Ram was the last one to go. He was thinking, “Hope all will meet at Summer Holidays and have our famous Summer Days like these 5 Days Of Enjoyment.

3rd Day... Part 2

Date: 14 Jan’ 11

Among the boys (not including Venkat) Ram was the first one to wake up. Narayan and Abhiram were still sleeping on their beds till their parents woke them up. They had their lunch and quickly went to the rest of the group.

Narayan was last one to go to his group. Ram said, “Why are you so late?”

“You slept all night.  Abhiram and I were the only two who did not sleep.” said Narayan.

“You are lying.” said Abhiram.

“What lie did I tell.” asked Narayan in shock.

“You did not mention the name of Prakash annaya. Did you? Wasn’t he also awake all night with us.” said Abhiram with a cunning smile.

Everybody began to laugh at Narayan. Narayan turned red with anger but he didn’t show his anger before everyone.

Then  Subash uncle came. He said, “Narayan and Abhiram, are you tired? “

Narayan said, “No, I am not tired nor is Abhiram. Are you Abhiram?”

“Not at all.”, said Abhiram

Subash uncle said, “We are planning to go either to the light house or to the beach.”

Sarala said, “As per our rule we go alternately to the beach or to the light house. As we went to the light house last year I think we should go to beach this year.”

Manika said, “I also think that way only. Subash uncle, today we shall go to the beach and next year we will go to the light house.”

Subash uncle said, “OK, I will finalize your plans with Teja uncle. I think the people from Kandikupa will also come with us. Will there be any problem?”

Narayan said, “Not at all. I think it will double the enjoyment if the children of Kandikupa also come. That means Jilu, Kannu, Janika akka (big sister) and Santosh will also come.”

“Yes, yes” everybody shouted.

Subash uncle went to Teja uncle’s house to talk about the plans.

After half an hour Subash uncle said, “At 4’00pm we will all leave for the beach. Four, four wheeler autos are coming to take some of us. One taxi is coming for taking the old people. Teja Uncle and I will lead the autos from front.

At 4’00pm there was so much noise in a quite village of Dontikurru. All the autos and taxi had been parked near Teja uncle’s house. Ladies were carrying bags which contained home-made food and extra clothes for the children.

There was so much shouting by the children.

One sad thing happened. It was that all the children could not be in the same auto. Narayan and Ram had to sit in one auto, Abhiram and Venkat in another auto and all the girls in another auto.
All were singing and dancing in the auto after the autos started.

Scene in the auto where Narayan and Ram were sitting

Roo00000rrrr, Roooooooorrrr sounded the auto in which Narayan and Ram were sitting. It went off as soon as Subash and Teja uncle’s bike started. Their auto was the first auto to be started.

The scene of the auto was like this –

Ø   A Om sign was pasted on top of the front driving window.
Ø  The driver was a strong man.
Ø  The seats had black leather covers to them.
Ø  It was comfortable to sit in the auto.

The members sitting in the auto were –

1.        Narayan
2.       Ramkrishna
3.       Baba Tatagaru
4.       Krishnaya Tatagaru
5.        Jyoti ammamma
6.       Mother of Abhiram – Sweta
7.        Mother of Narayan – Meera
They first watched the scenery of Dontikurru and waved hands to other autos in which their friends were sitting.

Then they started to play Atlas (name the place following the last letter of the place). First Narayana started by saying America then Ram said Amalapuram then Sweta aunty said Mumbai then Meera aunty said India and so on… it went.

Everybody was enjoying in the auto where Narayan and Ram were sitting. Would you like to know what happened in other autos too?

Scene in the auto where Abhiram and Venkat were sitting
The auto where Abhiram and Venkat sat, also went with a ROOOOOORRRR. They first waved hands to the auto where the girls were sitting.  Then they answered to the hand waves by Narayan and Ram by waving at them.

The scene of the auto was like this –

Ø  A tattoo of God Ganesh was pasted at the side of the front window.
Ø  The driver was a very thin man.
Ø  The auto had soft brown cover for the seats.
Ø  It was little congested as 8 members were sitting in the auto.

The members sitting in the auto were –

1.        Abhiram
2.       Venkat
3.       Prakash annaya
4.       Maliya ammamma
5.        Balaji tatagaru
6.       Ayyaparao tatagaru
7.        Mother of Abhiram – Durga
8.       Mother of Venkat – Varalaxmi
They started to play memory game of fruits.

First Venkat started by saying MANGO.

Then Ram continued by saying mango, PINEAPPLE.

Then Varalaxmi aunty said mango, pineapple, APPLE.

Durga aunty said mango, pineapple, apple, ORANGE. And it went on like that till Venkat got mixed up with the fruit names.

Then Abhiram started to show them how to play PSP in which all were interested except Ayyaparao tatagaru.

Scene in the auto where the girls were sitting.

At last after all the autos started , the auto in which the girls were sitting went off with a ROOOOORRR. They waved hands to the other autos in which the boys were sitting.

The scene of the auto was like this –

Ø  The front window was not there at all.
Ø  The curtains present in the auto were completely torn and needed to be stitched.
Ø  The driver was a very jolly man. He always taped his hands on the steering whenever the girls sang. He told many a tales about his life also. He told that the front window of the auto was broken by a small accident.
Ø  It was very comfortable to sit in the auto as only six people were there in the auto.

The members sitting in the auto were –

1.        Sarala
2.       Saritha
3.       Manika
4.       Mother of Sarala – Sridevi
5.        Mother of Saritha – Sanjulata
6.       Mother of Manika – Jaya
They started playing Antakshari. They divided themselves into two groups that were –

Ø  Girls Group that consisted Sarala, Saritha and Manika
Ø  Adults Group that consisted all the rest of the aunties.

First of all Sarala started it by singing a Manasa nuvunde choote cheppamma from the movie Munna(a telugu movie). After some time all the girls started singing with her. It ended with ma. So Adults Group sang a song which started with ma and it went on like that.

Back to the story…

It was a long journey but the games played by the elders passed the time easily. The sandy region near the sea started to come. The people stopped playing games and started seeing the scenery. At last the sound of the sea had come to their ears. The children started shouting hooooo! hooooo! After a few minutes the people of Dontikurru were able to see the sea. In the auto where Narayan and Ram were sitting someone tried to say ‘She sells sea shells on the sea shore’ but instead he said ‘Sea sells she sells on the sea shore’.
At last the autos stopped near the parking zone where the vehicles were parked. It was a very sandy beach. Subash uncle did not park his bike in the parking zone. Instead he kept on driving the bike on the sand of the beach. He was finding difficulty to move the bike fast. It stopped sometimes in a place where there was more sand than the surroundings. The beach had many holes. By this it is understood that there are many small crabs living near the beach.

For the children, luckily it was a low tide. The boys without any hesitation started running in the direction of the sea water till they were caught by Teja uncle. Teja uncle said, “Be intelligent. If you go too far you may drown.”

Ayyaparao tatagaru went on going into the sea till the water level was to his knee. He said, “You must obey me. You will not go deeper than me. All of you must be behind me.”

Ram did not heed the words of Ayyaparao tatagaru. He went on going more deeper than Ayyaparao tatagaru till he was caught by Teja uncle who pulled him to the shore and gave him a long roasting. Teja uncle said, “What will happen if anything happens to you. This is Pongal. You should celebrate this festivel by enjoying it as much as you can, not risking your life here and there. If you do not heed to my words you will be in a big trouble. Now go but do not go deeper than Ayyaparao tatagaru.

Ram was standing there with his head down with full of shame then after a minute he went back to the water and continued enjoying himself with the rest of the group.

The sea started affecting Narayan’s thin body. As soon as he went into the sea, the waves of the sea threw him to the shore. Venkat was a little afraid of the sea because Sarala had once told him that many deadly sharks, octopus and many other deadly creatures live in the sea. He was also told that the creatures liked to eat small children like him. He did not go into the sea till Sarala said that she had only joked about it to scare him.

After some time the people from Kandikupa came to the beach. As Narayan had said Jilu, Kannu, Janika akka and Santosh had also come with the people of Kandikupa. For half an hour they talked and took a bath in sea.

DONTIKURRU TOP SECRET (Don’t say this to anyone please)
Narayan had put a cricket bat and a rubber ball in the auto when no one saw him.  He had planned this with Subash uncle as they both wanted to surprise everyone. (Only Narayan, Subash uncle, I and you know this secret)

After everybody was numb because of the salt water by the sea. Many of them sat on the boats, which had been parked nearby by the fishermen, to dry themselves.

Narayan said, “To dry up by sitting in the sun will take a lot of time.”

Teja uncle said, “Then what will we do?”

“Wait here for a second. I will come just now.” said Narayan.

Subash uncle smiled a little but luckily nobody saw him doing it.

Narayan went towards the direction where the autos were parked. He came quickly with the cricket bat and the rubber ball.

Ram said, “Now at last I have a chance to become Sachin Tendulkar.”

Everybody laughed.

Teja uncle said, “Cricket. I haven’t played cricket for more than 5-6 years.”

Abhiram said, “Thank God. At last because of his blessings you have broken your record.”

Again everybody laughed.

They first formed two teams. One was Dontikurru Rock stars (the idea was given by Venkat) and another was Kandikupa Lions.

They started playing the match of 10 overs. The ball was not bouncing much because of the sandy ground. Ram had a solution for this. He filled a bucket (which was lying nearby) with the salt water of the sea and poured it near the batsman. As the sand absorbed the water it became hard and the ball bounced a little more than it had done previously.

The ladies had other plans too. They decided to play Kabaddi as they decided to take advantage of the sandy beach. But in this the ladies decided to make teams of their own. The teams they made were all jumbled up so they decided to make teams based on their villages only.

I don’t know what to say about old people. They always talk about politics everywhere and every time whenever they are together. They don’t enjoy games much.

They all enjoyed the cricket match but there were minor hiccups. Dontikurru Rock Stars managed to win the game but many of them were injured. While Venkat was bowling he mistakenly threw a full toss. The ball hit Santosh badly on his head. While trying to catch a ball Ram and Abhiram collided with each other with their elbows but then also Abhiram managed to catch the ball. Teja uncle had a pull in his thigh. He said, “I will not thank God as you said Abhiram. Because of this game I have this painful pull in my thigh.

The girls enjoyed the Kabaddi game but like the cricket match it also ended with a few hiccups. Sweta aunty was suffocated when everybody climbed on her. Sarala was thrown 2 metres away from the ground by Jilu. Maniks had hurt her knee.

The old people said, “Do you now understand why we did not want to play these games?”

Everybody admitted that they were wrong.

Narayan said, “Let’s have a last dip in the beach.”

By now the high tide was going on and the beach was also very sandy than before.

As soon as they went into the water their pocket were filled with lots of sand. They quickly got up and went to the adults and said let’s go, this sea in not filled with water now but it is filled with sand.

As they were moving they saw crabs coming out of their holes and going to other holes.

They quickly sat in their respective vehicles. They did not like to sit close to each other as they were covered with sand.

The autos started with a ROOR.

They were too tired to play games now. They wanted to go home, have a nice bath and sleep.

They all reached Dontikurru in an hour. From their autos the children started shouting as much as they can ‘DONTIKURRU ROCKS, DONTIKURRU ROCK STARS AGAIN ROCKED IT’. After they went to their home they had an half an hour bath. After it they had their dinner and went to sleep.

'Tomorrow we are going to have games competition. What fun we will have tomorrow.', everybody dreamed as they went to sleep.
